C.O.R.E. v0.7 Frequently asked questions
----------------------------------------

######################################################
#New features (Mobilizations, HARD C.O.R.E., Air mod):
######################################################

Q. I start game and my manpower is extremely low. It also does not seem to be increasing... Is it a bug?
A. No, some nations (usually democratic ones) got their manpower limited until the moment of mobilization.
When international situation gets tense or your country is attacked, you will get all manpower back.

Q. I see that some technologies are called "AI Only" and grant various benefits... Why?
A. Those techs are designed to balance some shortcomings of the AI, like inability to
flexible change R&D targets, invade in decent numbers, replenish org of it's vessels,
escort bombers and so on... While those techs may seems extremely powerfull, keep in
mind that they only make AI more 'human like' in terms of effectiveness.

Q. Why can I research AI-only tech tree?
A. There's an event which deactivates this tech (and a log of other AI techs) after a few days. You should
not start researching any of those.

Q. My nation starts with Extended Pilot training in the R&D queue but I can still research Shortened
Pilot training as well!
A. The Shortened program will be deactivated when the other tech has been researched. This is a HoI
limitation and the best way we can guide the AI while maintaining player choice.

Q. I see a lot of techs that give +0 to a stat and events that give 0 dissent. Why?
A. It's fractional increases, such as +0.25. The game only displays the integer but these increases are
tracked correctly and will add up to have an effect in improving your units or change your dissent.

Q: Air mod? So what what was changed, exactly?
A: In 0.7 all technologies relating to the air warfare were seriously changed. Many changes are taken
directly from the suggestion forum, and include:

- Carrier Air Groups (CAG's) as a separate, carrier based air unit,
- Expanded list of fighter models (rangeing from light Interceptors to Twin Engined heavy fighters) - 25 models total.
- Modified list of bombers, including close support planes, LR naval patrol planes, medium bombers and so on),
- Modified stats line of ALL air units,
- Added 2 new air doctrines representing different approach to the pilots training,
- Added Carrier Air Group doctrine, representing experience needed to use naval based planes effectively.
- 3 stages of plane development (project - prototype - production),
- Revisited system of engines development,
- Seriously developed system of upgrades/pre-reqisites for planes, including self-sealing tanks, armour plating,
super-heavy bombs, unguided Air-to-Surface rockets, afterburners and many more).

Q: How many planes are represented in CORE by one unit?
A: In case of land based units (fighters, close support planes, medium bombers, LR naval patrol planes, heavy
bombers) roughly 70-90 planes. In case of naval based planes (CAG) - it's approx. 30 planes. In case of the
transport planes - it's about 500 planes and gliders (airfleet capable of transporting paratrooper division
in one go).

Q: CAG? What the hell is CAG? Where are torpedo planes?
A: Carrier Air Group is the mixed unit of carrier based fighters, torpedo planes and dive bombers and replaces
torpedo plnes in the building queve. Since Hearts of Iron game allows players to put on the carriers 1-4 air
units, CAG's were introduced in C.O.R.E. to make carrier based units closer to the historical sizes (rougly
20-120 planes, depending on the carrier type).

IMPORTANT!
HOUSE RULE: When equiping aircraft carriers with the plane units, players should use CAG's only. Historically,
other air units were not able to operate succesfully from the board of carrier.

Q: My CAG's got crappy stats line. This sucks!
A: Just look at the air technologies and check out, which one help you to rise the statistics. Basically all
the techs related to the light bombers and single engined LR fighters will help you there, as well as
navigation techs. You have to rememeber though, that since CAG represents approx. 30 planes (compared to the
70-90 planes of the land based unit) it would always have lower stats then 1 land based unit.
Use the numbers as the advantage - most carriers is able to ferry 2+ CAG's!

Q: I've intercepted 4 units of Brittish Lancasters over Hamburg with 2 Bf-109F and I've lost! Same happened
on the Eastern Front when I attacked 8 Il-2 Shturmovik's. What's going on?!
A: Look at the light air tech tree and check out the techs with the text "(AI Only)" in their names. Since
up to date AI is unable to create effective fighter escort, those techs were introduced to create more realistic
air warfare - representing front fighter patrols and LR escorts. AI still got to develop those techs (as well as
proper pre-reqisites) to benefit from them.

#Compatibility:
################

Q. What version of HoI is this mod compatible with?
A. C.O.R.E. v0.7 is tested with HoI 1.05c with the 0411 leader/picture pack installed.

Q, There was a new picture pack released in November, should I use that with C.O.R.E. ?
A. Yes.

Q. Can I use this mod with No Time Limit?
A. No Time Limit is not supported by the C.O.R.E. team but many players use it without problems.

Q. Can I use this mod with Stony Road?
A. Stony Road can be installed in parallel but the two mods run separately. It's better to install it
on separate HoI installations.

Q. Can I use this mod with New Order?
A. A version of the New Order events are already integrated with C.O.R.E. and the New Order mod should
not be installed.

Q. Can I use this mod with the AI Enhancement Project files?
A. The enhanced AI files can be installed to improve the Paradox campaigns but will not have any effect
on the C.O.R.E. campaign.

Q. What about other mods?
A. We recommend you keep parallel installations of HoI rather than mix and match many mods on a single
install. This helps ensure that there's no conflicts for files where mod-dir doesn't work (for example
province.csv)

###############
#Installation:
###############

Q. What does the installation choices mean?
A. Using typical to install the entire C.O.R.E. mod, this is the recommended option. You can use minimal
or custom installation to skip installing graphical mods like new harbour icons etc.

Q. Does this mod overwrite original files?
A. C.O.R.E. v0.7 renames the \db\province.csv file to province.bak.csv. If you uninstall C.O.R.E. you
can then rename the original file back to province.csv

Q. I want to run both vanilla HoI and C.O.R.E. so how do I do this?
A1. Use the "Play Hearts of Iron" shortcut to start a Paradox campaign and use the "C.O.R.E. v0.7"
shortcut to start a C.O.R.E. campaign. The Paradox campaign will run with the C.O.R.E. province.csv
or you can rename province.bak.csv back to province.csv for the Paradox campaigns.

A2. Alternatively, create a duplicate installation of HoI. The easiest way to do this is to install HoI
with the latest patch, all the hotfixes and picture/leader/poster packs and make a copy of that. Then
install C.O.R.E. on top of the copy (for example ..\Hearts of Iron CORE\) and you will now have both
installations working. Start vanilla games with the Paradox icon, C.O.R.E. games with the C.O.R.E.
    icon.

Q. I have the Polish version of HoI and I don't get a C.O.R.E. icon on my desktop.
A. With the Polish version there is no HoI.exe (only HoIPOL.exe and HoIENG.exe) and therefore the
installer doesn't create a link (ie nothing to link to). Rename one of the HoIxxx.exe files to
HoI.exe and run the C.O.R.E. installer again.

Q. I have just installed C.O.R.E. and I didn't get a desktop icon?
A. If the mod is not installed to the directory where your HoI.exe file is located then the
installer does not create the shortcut. Run the installation again and make sure the install
path points to where your HoI.exe file is located. Pay extra attention to the distributor
part of the path which defaults of \Strategy First\ and must be changed for other versions.

Q. I just installed a patch and my icon still say v0.7, also the startup picture says v0.7!
A. We don't update the image or icon with every patch release. You can verify that the patch
was installed correctly by checking the file readme1.txt in ..\Hearts of Iron\mod-CORE\ as
it will indicate version number on the first line of the file.

#########################
# What's C.O.R.E. about:
#########################

Q. What's C.O.R.E. all about? Why should I install it?
A. The mod is the result of almost a year of volunteer work by gamers, for gamers. The mod
strives to improve realism and playability.

Q. What events does this mod add?
A. There is a list of most of the 2500 events on the official website at http://core.roadtowar.com.
Some events are AI only and not listed in detail as they mainly relate to game mechanics.

Q. What other things does this mod add?
A. New tech tree, new unit stats, several new nations, more options for difficulty levels, revised
AI files, new sprites and much more. Overall it provides a richer playing experience.

Q. What does the TechMod change?
A. Please see the documentation in \Hearts of Iron\mod-CORE\TechMod Docs\

Q. How do I research some of the new techs?
A. Some of the techs included represent national character and are not intended to be researched
by other nations. This is also true of negative techs such as Partisans and some AI only techs.
